Brent Shumard

Growing up in SW Ohio, Brent picked up the saxophone in his
school's
band program at the age of 10. At 13 he was introduced to the Baritone
Saxophone and never looked back. He played in various high school
ensembles, but it was at Valparasio University where his abilities
started to truly take shape. Splitting his time between a degree in
physics and a degree in music, Brent fostered his talents in classical
and jazz saxophone through practice and ensemble play. Through college
Brent played and sang with many groups including the Valparasio
University Jazz Lab Band, several Jazz combos, an all male a capella
group called 5+1, and a rock and soul band called Walter Ego.
After graduating from Valpo, Brent moved back to Ohio where he played
in the Eddie Brookshire Big Band and taught saxohpone lessons. After a
long job search Brent was brought to Chicago to pursue physics, and
music if time allowed. Since moving to Chicago, he has played with The
Glen Ellyn Big Band, Limited Edition Big Band, Rude King, and has now
settled in with the 95th Street Band while doing research and
development in Argonne National Laboratory's Physics Division.
